Breast Reconstruction (Implants & Flaps) in Newton and Wichita

As the result of major advances in cosmetic surgery over the last several years, reconstructive breast surgery can create breasts that both look and feel natural. Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Susan Lovelle believes that reconstruction of a breast which has been removed due to cancer or other disease is one of the most rewarding surgical procedures that she has to offer.
Reconstruction plastic surgery can be discussed as you wish, either prior to, or after your breast removal procedure. At the new surgery center in Newton, Dr. Lovelle offers both Flap Reconstruction as well as Implant Reconstruction. Dr. Lovelle’s extensive training and experience in breast reconstruction give her great expertise in the various approaches available to her patients.
With TRAM Flap Reconstruction Dr. Lovelle will transplant excess skin, muscle, and fat from the lower abdominal area to the breast site. The excess tissue taken from the abdomen forms the new breast.
Latissimus Flap Breast Reconstruction involves the creation of a flap on the patient’s back. Dr. Lovelle will rotate the latissimus dorsi muscle forward, along with excess fat and skin, and position it at the breast site. At this point, a breast implant will be placed under the flap, and the back and breast will be stitched closed.
With Implant Breast Reconstruction, an expander will be placed below the chest muscles and will be periodically injected with saline. These injections will take place over several weeks, in which time the overlying skin will expand. Dr. Lovelle will then remove the expander and replace it with a breast implant.
Dr. Lovelle has found that patients seek breast reconstruction plastic surgery for many different and entirely personal reasons, both physical and emotional. Breast reconstruction plastic surgery can help lift your sense of confidence and self image. You may also feel more balanced, in terms of breast weight and appearance with breast reconstruction, and be able to wear a greater variety of clothes, including bathing suits, tank tops, and more low-cut styles.
Some women are afraid that should their breast cancer return it would be more difficult to detect the tumor through a reconstructed breast than through a mastectomy scar. There is no need to fear difficulties with cancer detection. Current evidence indicates that it is no more difficult to find and treat cancer through a reconstructed breast.
During your breast reconstruction consultation at the new plastic surgery center in Newton, Dr. Lovelle will explain each of your surgical options in detail and answer all of your questions. Her goal is to gain your trust and confidence so that together you can choose the procedure that will give you the greatest possible result.
